THE UNSEEN ZINE

In every society, there are individuals who are unable or choose not to participate at all. Forgotten by society, they remain hidden in corners and are stamped as unseen. The difference between the unseen and those who live in a normal society is that their masks have fallen. Though the masks may be thinner, beneath them, we are all scared. We fear losing control and constantly look over our shoulders, afraid that something will pounce on us and we will vanish into nothingness.

In this zine, I present a group of people, each carrying their own story. These photos were taken by the artist and photographer Roger Ballen and are complemented by the powerful statements of Barbara Kruger. What these two artists share is their advocacy for a forgotten group of people. In their own unique ways, they bring the invisible to light. In this zine, they come together to make the invisible visible.
